The 'textacab' service will be coming online from early march 2008.
Textacab will be mainly at Stansted Airport and will be administered by Stansted Taxi Services.
The aim is to set up a system where clients can text the word 'Cabby' followed by the location they want a cab. For example if they are at the 'Holiday Inn Express' they would text the word 'Cabby' followed by 'Express' to the sms short code number and the system would then start it's work.
The controller then finds the nearest car to the 'Holiday Inn Express' and informs them of the waiting client and estimants the time it will take for the car to reach them. They then send a confirmation to the waiting client via text message with the details of the car and the driver and the time they will be there. There is nominal charge for this service which is charged to the client with the confirmation text, no charge for none confirmed bookings.
The car then arrives and picks up the client and takes them to the terminal or any other destination they require. This system is quick and doesn't leave the client hanging on a phone line, calls can often be costly when made from mobile phones.
The client pays the cab driver at the end of the journey. There will be a 'credit card' payment system introduced in the near future.
So the next time you need a cab at any location near Stansted Airport, textacab with the word 'Cabby' and let Stansted Taxi Services make all the arrangements for you.
